OAKLAND -- Warriors center Andris Biedrins sustained a high left ankle sprain on Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks and will not accompany the team on its upcoming four-game road trip.

Biedrins will miss contests with Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio and Houston. Warriors coach Keith Smart said rookie Ekpe Udoh will start at center.

The injury occurred midway through the third quarter of Dallas' 112-106 win over the Warriors at Oracle Arena. Biedrins said he wasn't exactly sure what happened on the play.

"That's a good question," Biedrins said after practice on Thursday. "I think I tripped over somebody and sprained it. I didn't look at the replay. It just happened out of nowhere. I kind of felt it because it went all the way. You can feel how far it goes when you sprain it."

Biedrins sprained the same ankle in mid-December and wound up missing nine games. He said he doesn't believe this sprain was as severe.

Biedrins had started the past five games at center after he was removed -- in favor of Udoh -- from the starting lineup for four games.

Biedrins has struggled offensively this season, averaging just 5.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He is shooting just over 32 percent from the free-throw line.

He had seven points and eight rebounds Wednesday before leaving with the injury.
