Delanie Walker's jaw shows improvement

SANTA CLARA -- Tight end Delanie Walker, who sustained a fractured jaw Dec. 24, was at the 49ers' practice facility on Thursday.Teammates said Walker has made good progress from a week ago, when he was on a liquid diet and unable to talk. Walker now is able to talk with more ease and he is eating solid food.
However, Walker's availability is still in question for the 49ers' first playoff game on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Candlestick Park. Walker remains on the 49ers' 53-man roster.RELATED: Delanie Walker 2011 game logs
Receiver Kyle Williams said he will take part in Thursday's practice after missing Sunday's game with a concussion, confirming what he initially told CSNBAyArea.com on Monday. Williams said he was not required to take any additional concussion tests this week. He has been symptom-free since late last week.The 49ers signed rookie outside linebacker Rick Elmore to the practice squad. He also agreed to sign a reservefuture contract with the 49ers to take part in their offseason program and attend training camp next summer. The Green Bay Packers selected Elmore (Arizona) in the sixth round of the 2011 draft. He was released at the end of training camp. Elmore replaces outside linebacker Bruce Davis, whom the 49ers signed earlier this week.Tight end Nate Byham, who sustained season-ending left knee injury in training camp, has started running full speed as part of his rehabilitation, he said. Byham said he would be able to take part in organized team activities this offseason, but it's likely he will be held out until training camp as a precaution. Byham tore his ACL on July 30 when he lunged for a pass and landed awkwardly.
