The Rangers suffered a big blow during the bottom of the fifth inning Monday night against the A's.

Designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo was hit on the left forearm by a Ross Detwiler pitch, and was later diagnosed with a fractured left forearm.

The Rangers will place Choo on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced during the seventh inning.

Choo, batting left-handed, was attempting to get out of the way of an inside pitch. The pitch hit him on the back arm. Choo was in immediate pain and was attended to by team trainers.

As he walked off the field, he held his arm aloft. Rookie Nomar Mazara replaced Choo as a pinch-runner.

The 34-year-old Choo, who normally plays right field, has been limited to 45 games this season by calf and hamstring strains and lower back inflammation. He's been on the disabled list three times. He is hitting .247 with seven home runs and 17 RBI.
