Jerry Rice's son shows flashes of dad with two long TDs

Today, in news that should surprise absolutely no one: Jerry Rice has good football genes.

Brenden Rice, the son of the former 49ers great, put together a breakout game for the University of Colorado on Saturday, scoring a pair of long touchdowns for the Buffs. First came an 81-yard punt return, before the receiver (what else would he be?) took a quick hitch route all the way to the house for a 61-yard score.

Don’t remember Jerry having that type of breakaway speed!

We bestow the “Greatest of All Time” title to many athletes these days, perhaps too loosely, but former 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice can lay a legit claim to being the G.O.A.T. No one has scored more touchdowns (208), caught more passes (1,549) or racked up more receiving yards (22,895) in NFL history. The three Super Bowl rings don’t hurt the resume, either.

Living up to that legacy will be impossible, but it’s cool to see Brenden Rice record his first multi-touchdown effort in just the fifth game of his college career. Listed at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Brenden was a four-star high school prospect before joining Colorado. Personally, the nostalgic fan in me would love to see him wearing No. 80 on his jersey, but he elected to go with No. 2.
