Former A’s Stars to Provide Analysis for A’s Pregame Live and A’s Postgame Live

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – March 27, 2017 – NBC Sports California, the exclusive local television home of Oakland A’s baseball, today announced that former A’s players and fan favorites Jose Canseco, Dave Stewart and Dallas Braden have joined the network as studio analysts.  They will provide analysis and commentary on NBC Sports California’s signature programs A’s Pregame Live and A’s Postgame Live.

“Jose Canseco, Dave Stewart and Dallas Braden authored some of the greatest moments in A’s history, and each was known for his passion and personality,” said David Koppett, Vice President of Content Strategy for NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California.  “We look forward to all three bringing those qualities to our signature A’s programs."

One hour prior to the game, fans can catch the latest team developments, interviews with players and coaches and in-depth game previews on A’s Pregame Live. Immediately following the game, A’s Postgame Live will give viewers an hour-long game breakdown with stats and highlights, clubhouse interviews and a preview of the next game.  Canseco, Stewart and Braden join former Major Leaguers Bip Roberts and Shooty Babitt as analysts at NBC Sports California.  Canseco will provide insight and analysis for the shows live via satellite from his home in Las Vegas.  A’s Pregame Live and A’s Postgame Live are anchored by veteran sportscaster Brodie Brazil.

Canseco, a six-time All Star and two-time World Series champion (1989, 2000), hit 462 home runs and had 1,407 RBI in his 17-year MLB career.  An outfielder and designated hitter, Canseco broke into the major leagues with the A’s (1985-1992, 1997).  As a member of the A’s, he was the 1986 AL Rookie of the Year and the AL MVP for 1988, a season in which he was the first player to join baseball’s 40-40 club, hitting 42 home runs and stealing 40 bases.  Canseco also played for the Texas Rangers (1992-1994), Boston Red Sox (1995-1996), Toronto Blue Jays (1998), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1999-2000), New York Yankees (2000) and Chicago White Sox (2001).

Stewart, a native of Oakland and pitcher for the A’s (1986-1992, 1995), is a four-time 20-game winner (1987-1990), and  recorded a 3.95 ERA and 1,741 strikeouts over his 16-year MLB career.  During the 1989 World Series against the San Francisco Giants, Stewart started two games, one of which was a complete game, and he posted a 1.69 ERA for the series.  He went on to win the World Series MVP.  On June 29, 1990, he pitched a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays at the SkyDome.  Stewart, a three-time World Series champion (1981, 1989, 1993), also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1978, 1981-1983), Texas Rangers (1983-1985), Philadelphia Phillies (1985-1986) and Blue Jays (1993-1994).  After his playing career, he worked in the front office with the A’s, San Diego Padres and Blue Jays, and served as pitching coach for multiple teams.  Most recently, Stewart was the general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Braden, a Stockton native, spent five seasons with the A’s (2007-2011).  On May 9, 2010, he pitched the nineteenth perfect game in MLB history when he defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in Oakland on Mother’s Day.  Braden pitched for Stagg High School in Stockton, then went on to play at Texas Tech University.  He was drafted by the A’s in 2004 and made his debut with the club in 2007.  After his playing career, Braden joined ESPN in 2014 as a studio analyst.  He will continue in his role as a national analyst for the network.
