Los Angeles Angels

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Los Angeles Angels say pitcher Mark Mulder has torn his left Achilles tendon, cutting short his comeback and possibly bringing an end to his career.

As spring training inches closer, the Hot Stove speculation begins to cool a bit.

The Angels have signed former A's pitcher Mark Mulder to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to a national report.

The Angels have emerged as the front runner to sign Mark Mulder. An incentive-laden deal could be reached soon, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

The Hot Stove season has cranked into gear early this winter, and the American League West has been the epicenter for some of the heaviest activity.
