Notes: 49ers at Seahawks, Tomsula preaches ‘full steam ahead'

SANTA CLARA – The 49ers returned from the bye week on Monday to begin preparations to face the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers are 0-4 on the road this season, with blowout losses at Pittsburgh, Arizona and St. Louis. Coach Jim Tomsula sat down with his staff last week to try to figure out why the 49ers have struggled so much on the road while winning three of their five home games.

“I don’t put it on crowd noise. I don’t put it on those things,” Tomsula said on Monday. “Just coming out rolling. Just go. That’s our focus this week. Let’s go. (We’re) leaving on Saturday. Let’s just (go) full steam ahead. We don’t need to sit back and pause and this and that. Let’s just go. Start this week and take it all the way through the game.”

The 49ers have lost their previous four games at Seattle. They have also lost four consecutive games to the Seahawks, including two at Levi's Stadium. Seattle beat the 49ers 20-3 on Oct. 22 in Santa Clara.

---Running back Carlos Hyde, receiver Anquan Boldin and cornerback Tramaine Brock remain questionable for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Hyde (foot) and Boldin (hamstring) missed the two games prior to the bye week, while Brock did not play against Atlanta on Nov. 8 due to a deep contusion to his shin bone.

“None of those guys have gone full speed,” Tomsula said. “Nobody’s done anything at a full-tilt, yet. So we’ll see where that is.”

Hyde has a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal of his left foot. Surgery could still be an option for Hyde if the condition does not improve with rest.

“We’re going to see where it’s at, and see where it’s going,” Tomsula said. “He’s obviously been doing things for conditioning. He’s not running a ton. We’ll see where he’s at this week.”

---The 49ers will continue to mix and match in their secondary and offensive line, Tomsula said. With cornerbacks Brock and Kenneth Acker (concussion) out against the Falcons, Dontae Johnson and Marcus Cromartie got the starts.

Acker and Keith Reaser, who missed the game with an ankle sprain, are expected to be ready to play Sunday. But Tomsula said there are spots in the defensive backfield that are still unsettled.

“We have some secondary guys we feel have earned some opportunity,” he said.

The offensive line also figures to have some moving parts. Andrew Tiller might replace Jordan Devey at right guard. Trent Brown saw some action at right tackle with veteran Erik Pears moving to play some guard, too. Also, center Daniel Kilgore returns to practice this week and could be active for when the team plays Arizona on Nov. 29.
