Pac-12 football: Stanford picked second, Cal fourth

USC and Oregon were picked as the class of the Pac-12 in a poll of media members, but Cal and Stanford received preseason respect.

The Cardinal received five first-place votes and was tabbed as the No. 2 division in the conference's North Division. The Bears got one first-place vote, with the media predicting a fourth-place finish in the division.

Rose Bowl champion Oregon was picked to win the North Division and USC was selected to win the South Division. A total of 123 media members participated in the poll.

Stanford opens the 2012 season hosting San Jose State on Sept. 1, with a Sept. 15 visit by USC looming large on the calendar. Cal will kick off on Sept. 1, hosting Nevada. It will travel to USC for its first conferene matchup of the season on Sept. 15.
