San Francisco/Bay Area ranked No. 3 in America's best sports cities

What makes a city great? For me, it’s the people. But what makes an area a great sports town?

Well, championships certainly don’t hurt. Perhaps that’s why San Francisco/Bay Area earned a top spot on Forbes’ list of America’s best sports cities.

We’re talking about a prominent spot at No. 3. That’s in big part to winning 30 championships between the 49ers, Warriors, Giants, A’s, Sharks and Raiders over the years.

Think about what we’ve been able to see in just the last decade alone.

The Warriors snagged three NBA championships in 2015, ‘17 and ‘18. They created their own dynasty with Steph Curry leading the way.

The Giants’ “Even Year Magic” had the team sporting three World Series Rings in 2010, ‘12 and ‘14. Who didn’t love Tim Lincecum running through the streets of San Francisco as confetti fell during the celebrations?

Those two teams alone started a lot of the recent success.

The 49ers made a Super Bowl appearance during the 2012 season and just recently appeared in Super Bowl LIV last year. We don’t have to discuss the results of those ...

Even Levi’s Stadium, the home of the 49ers alone, has hosted a Super Bowl in 2016 and the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship game.

The Sharks also made it to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2016 and the A’s have been consistent playoff participants, despite their elimination-game struggles. But they get there. And we can't forget their own dynasty in the '80s.

The Bay Area has seen it all and been successful in the process.
