Santa Clara's Foster withheld from playing

The Broncos took the court against Loyola Marymount Monday without WCC leading scorer Kevin Foster; they suffered their seventh straight loss.

RECAP: LMU 74, Santa Clara 62
The news doesn't get any better for Santa Clara, as it appears Foster is in some trouble. He was held out of Monday's loss because of a violation of team policy.

Usual starters Evan Roquemore, Niyi Harrison and John McArthur also violated team policy, and began Monday's game on the bench. Unlike Foster, they were worked into the action.

"I would rather go down doing the right thing than win making compromises because it's not all about winning," Broncos head basketball coach Kerry Keating said.

"I'm proud of the program and how we run it, and I'm never going to change that. And I know as a result of that, when we do win, we're going to feel a lot better about how we got there."

Foster, a redshirt Junior, just passed Steve Nash and is now listed as fourth on the Broncos' all-time leading scorers list with 1,691 points.

Below is the University's official statement:

Santa Clara -- As a result of an incident this past weekend, Santa Clara University junior basketball player Kevin Foster will be withheld from competition pending the outcome of the Universitys student judicial process.

"We respect the Santa Clara student judicial process and we will work with Kevin to help him through this, said Keating.
