The Los Angeles Angels announced Monday that starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs had died. He was 27.
The Angels' Monday night game in Texas against the Rangers has been canceled. The Rangers also issued a statement, expressing their condolences.

Police in Southlake, Texas, released a statement in which they said they responded to a Monday afternoon call of an unconscious male in a hotel room. Skaggs was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said "no foul play is suspected."
Skaggs, whose last career start came Saturday against the A's in Anaheim, was a first-round draft pick (40th overall) of the Angels in 2009. He was traded in 2010 to the Diamondbacks, with whom he made his debut, and was dealt back to the Angels in 2013. He went 28-38 across seven seasons in the league, with a 4.41 ERA and 476 strikeouts in 520.2 innings.
Skaggs and his wife, Carli, recently had been married.
