It must have been music to the ears of Terry Stotts, and the Trail Blazers’ fan base on Friday when newly signed center Festus Ezeli talked about defense.

“That’s the part of the game I like the most,’’ the former Golden State center said before listing strengths such as his agility on pick and rolls, blocking shots and rebounding. “I’m going to try and be the monster I can be.’’

A ‘monster’ on defense had become the last remaining hole on an otherwise complete roster for the Blazers this summer, and with the 26-year-old free agent, the Blazers feel like they are now better equipped to compete in the Western Conference.

“It’s a complete roster,’’ said Neil Olshey, the team’s president of basketball operations. “I think we have a lot of answers. I think we cause a lot of problems for people.’’

The Blazers signed the 6-foot-11 Ezeli to a two-year contract worth about $7.5 million per season, which is regarded as a value contract in a summer of exploding salaries.
