Chasing history: Curry's 3-point pace approaching 400

Having already broken his own record for the most 3-pointers in a season, twice, Stephen Curry is now within reach of a once unthinkable mark.

With 11 games remaining, Curry has a shot at making 400 threes in the 2015-16 regular season. With 343 trifectas through Thursday, an average of 5.0 per game, the Warriors' sharpshooter is on a pace to finish with 398.

Of course, that equation does not factor in missing games due to rest, which is a real possibility for Curry and the Warriors' other minutes leaders down the stretch.

“There will be conversations with the people involved,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told CSN Bay Area Insider Monte Poole on Wednesday. “I’m not going to just take Steph or Draymond or Klay (Thompson), or all three, out of the lineup without approaching them. ... We’ll see what happens.”

If Curry were to sit out just one game, his chances at reaching 400 threes would shrink significantly.

The reigning league MVP has made it clear that he has no desire to sit out, though, and the Warriors' chase of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' wins record could help his cause.

In 18 games this year, Kerr has elected to sit Curry for the entire fourth quarter -- the equivalent of 4.5 full games. Curry is also averaging just 33.9 minutes per game this season, placing him outside the top 30 in the NBA.

The three-time All-Star first set the single-season 3-point record back in 2012-13, when he hit for 272 in 78 games. He bested himself last season, finishing with 286 in 80 contests.
