Gameday: Warriors face test against hot, desperate Jazz

Programming note: Warriors-Jazz coverage starts tonight at 5pm with Warriors Pregame Live on CSN Bay Area, and streaming live right here.

For the second consecutive night, the Warriors are facing a team scrapping for a position in the playoffs.

And this time it’ll be on the road, as the Utah Jazz will be waiting for the defending champions Wednesday night at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.

A win by the Warriors (67-7) would establish a single-season record for the franchise, which last season went 67-15. Moreover, the Warriors with a victory would move two full games ahead of the pace set by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, whose 72-10 record is the all-time best.

Utah (37-37) has been one of the hotter teams in the league, relying largely on stellar defense to win eight of its last 10 games in its quest to make the playoffs. The Jazz are among five teams fighting for the final four postseason berths within the Western Conference.

MATCHUP TO WATCH

Klay Thompson vs. Rodney Hood: There are several intriguing matchups between the teams, but this one has a chance to last awhile. Though Hood’s vast potential is starting to reveal itself, most recently with a 30-point half Monday night against the Lakers, he’ll be forced to expend energy on defense against Thompson, who has been as hot as any player in the league.

LAST 10

Warriors: 9-1

Jazz: 8-2.

INJURY REPORT

Warriors: F Brandon Rush (R knee bruise) is listed as questionable. C Festus Ezeli (L knee surgery), F Andre Iguodala (L ankle sprain) and F Kevon Looney (R hip soreness) are listed as out.

Jazz: G Alec Burks (R fibula fracture) and G Dante Exum (L ACL surgery) are listed as out.

SERIES HISTORY

QUOTABLE

“It’s big. It’s a very good team fighting for a playoff spot and they play tough each and every time. So it will always be a great challenge for us. But we’ve handled it well this year and, hopefully, we can go in there (Wednesday) and get a win.” – Draymond Green on facing the Jazz
