Stephen Curry continued his explosive start to the 2015-16 NBA season, tearing through the Pelicans en route to the Warriors' third win of the season.

The reigning MVP finished with 53 points, his third career 50-point game and one point shy of tying his career-high, on 17-of-27 (.630) shooting from the field and 8-of-14 (.571) from three-point range, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Rick Barry as the only Warriors to have at least three 50-point scoring performances.

He scored 28 points in the third quarter, a career-high for scoring in a quarter and personally outscoring the Pelicans by two points in the frame (28-26).

Curry’s 28 points in a quarter are the most scored in any frame since Klay Thompson’s NBA-record 37 points in the third quarter on Jan. 23, 2015 vs. Sacramento.

Curry has scored 118 points through the season’s first three games, the most by a Warrior since Chamberlain in 1962-63 (152).

Curry joins Chamberlain, Michael Jordan and Jerry West as the only players ever to score at least 118 points through the season’s first three games. Curry is also the first Warrior since Rick Barry in 1966-67 to have two 40-point performances in the season’s first three games (and first NBA player since Carmelo Anthony in 2009-10 to accomplish that feat).

Curry became the first player to score 53 points in 36 minutes or less since Kobe Bryant scored 62 points in 33 minutes on Dec. 20, 2005 vs. Dallas. Curry has now hit at least one three-pointer in 76-straight games, a career-best streak.
