NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans has had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

While the club says Tuesday's operation was "successful," the Pelicans are not immediately providing a timetable for Evans' return.

The 6-foot-6 Evans, who is expected to serve as starting point guard this season under new coach Alvin Gentry, averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.

He played in two recent preseason games, averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

Selected fourth overall out of Memphis by Sacramento in the 2009 NBA Draft, Evans has averaged 16.8 points, 5.2 assists and 4.9 rebounds during his career.
