On Monday it appeared that the Warriors were front runners to land the head coaching services of Stan Van Gundy. A day later that may no longer be the case.
Multiple national reports indicate that the Pistons have one-upped the Warriors, offering Van Gundy the head coaching job as well as overseer of basketball operations in Detroit.

League sources have told Yahoo! Sports that the two parties are negotiating on a five-year $35 million deal.
According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury, Van Gundy was seeking just such a position with the Warriors who declined to offer him that level of control over the team.

If the Warriors' pursuit of Van Gundy falls through, the team may redouble its efforts to lure another top candidate in Steve Kerr, who has yet to finalize a deal to become the coach of the New York Knicks.
