How much of a role did Steve Nash play in luring Kevin Durant to Golden State?

“Without Steve Nash, I’m not sure if we get Kevin Durant," one Warriors official told Sports Illustrated's Lee Jenkins.

Earlier this week, Nash shared his feelings about Durant's decision to come to the Warriors.

"I think It’s great," Nash said from the Philippines on Wednesday. "First of all, for Kevin personally, he made the move that was best for him. He saw an opportunity to win in Golden State.

“But I think, more importantly, knowing Kevin -- he’s a friend of mine -- I think he was just as excited to be in a really positive environment, the great culture there and a great coach who is empowering and at the same time demanding, and I think that will bring the best out of him.

"And I think it was much a personal move for his happiness and development as it was to win. He had all the power to choose where he wanted to go within the rules and construct of the game.

"And I take my hat off to him for making a bold decision."

Nash, who just completed his first season as a part-time player development consultant with the Warriors, is close with Steve Kerr and Warriors assistant Bruce Fraser from their time together in Phoenix.

On June 24, Durant showed up in New York for The Steve Nash Foundation's ninth annual "Showdown" soccer game.

“Steve (Nash) knows us -- our culture and our guys -- so well,” Fraser told Jenkins. “He doesn’t sell anybody on anything. He’s just a great sounding board.”
