OAKLAND -- The Warriors on Monday announced the signing of guard Ben Gordon, who was seeking an invitation to the team’s training camp that begins on Tuesday.

Gordon, 32, will attempt to make the team as a backup shooting guard. The 11-year veteran spent last season with Orlando, which released him in June.

“He’s a proven scorer, a proven shooter,” coach Steve Kerr said last week, as Gordon’s contract was being finalized. “He’s at an age where he should still be able to play. Physically, he looks good.

“So we’ll give him a chance. No guarantees of anything. But we do have, potentially, one roster opening. So we’ll give him a look.”

Gordon will compete with youngsters Jarell Eddie, Chris Babb and Ian Clark for a role in the backcourt behind starters Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

“He’s going to come to camp and we’ll see what happens,” general manager Bob Myers said. “We have one roster spot, so we’ll keep that open and let the guys come in and compete for it.”

The team’s training camp roster now stands at 20.
