OAKLAND – Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has conducted interviews with several candidates to join his staff, but the search continues for someone to replace Luke Walton, the departing No. 1 assistant.
Walton, who spent two years with the Warriors and this season served as interim head coach for the first 43 games, was introduced Tuesday in Los Angeles as head coach of the Lakers.
Kerr began interviewing potential replacements in May, shortly after Walton accepted the job in LA.

“That’s something we did look at,” Warriors general manager Bob Myers said Tuesday. “But we didn’t have the amount of attention it deserves because we were still playing.”
Kerr met with one candidate, ex-Warriors assistant Stephen Silas (now with the Hornets), in Oklahoma City, between Games 3 and 4 of the Western Conference Finals. Kerr also reportedly met with Trail Blazers assistant Nate Tibbetts.

And Kerr also reportedly planned to meet with former head coaches Mike Brown and Tyrone Corbin, though there has been no confirmation.

That the conference finals was a rugged, seven-game series restricted Walton to securing only one of his new assistants – Brian Shaw, the Oakland resident and former Nuggets head coach, who will serve as top assistant in LA – while also preventing Kerr from making much headway in his search.
“We thought about it,” Myers said. “We have some ideas, but it’s not close to conclusion right now.”
The Warriors have given Walton permission to meet with any of their current staffers who might be interested in making the move to Southern California. Several are expected to be candidates for Walton’s new staff.
