At 8:38am PT on July 4, Kevin Durant announced that he would be signing with the Warriors.

According to Russell Westbrook, that's the moment he learned he would no longer be teammates with Durant.

"Like y'all found out," Westbrook told the media on Thursday. "On the news, on the cellphones, the social media."

Before his free agent process began, Durant met with Westbrook and Nick Collison for dinner, and Westbrook reportedly left with the belief that Durant would return to the Thunder.

At his introductory press conference in Oakland on July 7, Durant told reporters that he spoke with Westbrook about his decision to go in a different direction.

"I talked to him. Obviously, it's tough," Durant explained. "We were teammates for so long and had a lot of great memories. I'm sure he wasn't happy about the decision but he respected it as my friend.

"Our relationship was great, we had great years man -- something that you can never take away from us ... I couldn't consider everybody's feelings at this point...

"I just tried to focus on me but also realize that the relationships that I had, I still wanted those to be -- I'm sure they won't be the same..."

Speaking from Brazil on Thursday, Durant told the Boston Globe that he won't be reaching out to Westbrook anytime soon to congratulate him on signing an extension with Oklahoma City.

"Nah, that's a touchy subject," Durant said. "I'll see once everything dies down."
