When the 49ers take the field for their first 2014 home game in the new Santa Clara stadium, they'll do so on Marie P DeBartolo Way, as the team is changing the names of two nearby streets in advance of the stadium's opening.
Centennial Boulevard will become Marie P DeBartolo Way, and the address of the new stadium will be 4900 Marie P DeBartolo Way. Marie DeBartolo is the late grandmother of team CEO Jed York.
South of the stadium, Bill Walsh Drive will be established. Walsh coached the 49ers from 1979 until 1988, leading the team to a 92-59-1 record and three Super Bowl victories.
Walsh died of Leukemia in 2007.
Although construction of the new Santa Clara Stadium began less than 11 months ago, the building is well on its way to being sold out. Legends, the company hired to market the premium and reserved seats for the Santa Clara Stadium Authority, will submit $400 million of Stadium Builders License contracts for its approval. To date, 75 percent of all available SBLs in the venue have been sold.
