SANTA CLARA -– Running back and primary punt returner Jarryd Hayne is not active for Thursday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Hayne will not suit up for the 49ers for the first time this season. In the first six games, Hayne averaged 9.5 yards on eight returns. He fumbled last week in the 49ers’ 25-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Bruce Ellington is likely to handle the 49ers’ punt return chores -– a job he held last season. Ellington averaged 8.2 yards on punt returns as a rookie. Also, the 49ers will have running back Mike Davis active in place of Hayne.
