The 49ers' visits with veteran defensive backs this week resulted in the club signing one of them to a contract.

The 49ers signed cornerback Will Davis to a one-year contract, the club announced on Thursday. The 49ers waived wide receiver Rashad Ross to make room for Davis on the 49ers’ 90-man roster.

The 49ers visited with such NFL veterans as Jairus Byrd and Leon Hall this week, but Davis was the first to strike a deal with the club.

Davis, 27, originally a third-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2013, appeared in just five games over the past two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. He recorded five tackles, two passes defensed and one interception. The Ravens waived him in November.

Ross was signed by the 49ers’ acting personnel department during the time in January after the firing of Trent Baalke and before the hiring of new general manager John Lynch. Ross appeared in 18 games the past two seasons with Washington, catching nine passes for 192 yards and a touchdown.
