SANTA CLARA – Tight end Vance McDonald sustained a fractured shoulder blade, a season-ending injury that prompted the 49ers to place him on injured reserve this week.

Coach Chip Kelly revealed on Wednesday the extent of McDonald’s injury, as well as providing an update that center Daniel Kilgore is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a torn hamstring. Kilgore was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.

Both players were injured Sunday in the first half of the 49ers’ 23-17 loss to the New York Jets at Levi’s Stadium.

The 49ers added two centers to their 53-man roster -- Josh Allen, whom the club claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and rookie Alex Balducci, who was called up from the practice squad.
