SANTA CLARA – Center Jonathan Goodwin, who has started every game in three seasons with the 49ers, was chosen by his teammates as the 2013 Ed Block Courage Award recipient.

The award goes annually to the player who exemplifies a commitment to sportsmanship and courage. It is the first time in Goodwin’s 12-year career he has won the award.

Goodwin and Anthony Davis are the only 49ers offensive linemen to start every game the past three seasons. Since 2008, Goodwin has started 84 consecutive games, which ranks third among all NFL centers.

The Ed Block Courage Award is named after Ed Block, the former head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts of 23 years. All 32 award winners will be honored at an event in Baltimore, Md., in March.
