SANTA CLARA – The 49ers expect cornerback Tarell Brown to return this season from a ribs injury he sustained Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

Brown was in extreme discomfort after the game from the injury that knocked him out of the action late in the first half of the 49ers’ 23-20 loss. He did not return home with the team on the chartered flight Sunday evening back to the Bay Area.

Harbaugh said Brown did not sustain cracked ribs. He declined to reveal any specifics about Brown's injury.

“He’s walking around and getting better every day,” said Harbaugh, who added Brown is not expected to be placed on injured reserve.

Brown is not expected to be available Monday night against Washington. Tramaine Brock is scheduled to take Brown’s spot in the starting lineup with veteran Eric Wright taking over as the team’s third cornerback.
