Trent Baalke and Jim Harbaugh have been busy recently as the 49ers have made numerous changes to their 53-man roster. (USATSI)

Three weeks ago, the 49ers had a full roster and a bunch of players on reserve lists who became eligible to be added to the 53-man roster.

Here’s what’s happened and how the 49ers believe they’ve upgraded their roster with recent transactions:

Loss (Oct. 17): The 49ers waive wide receiver/tight end Chris Harper after he was inactive for the first six games of the season. The Green Bay Packers claimed him off waivers.

Gain (Oct. 19): The 49ers activate defensive lineman Quinton Dial, who had surgery in January to repair toe ligaments and tendons. Dial, a fifth-round draft pick from Alabama, has played 15 snaps in two games. The 49ers are high on him as a future rotation player.

Loss (Oct. 29): The 49ers waive outside linebacker Jermaine Cunningham. He was inactive for all four games after the 49ers signed him to the 53-man roster. He remains a free agent.

Gain (Oct. 29): Rookie defensive lineman Tank Carradine, a second-round draft pick, is activated to the 53-man roster. Carradine has not played in a game since Nov. 23, when he sustained a torn ACL while playing his final game at Florida State. He practiced two full weeks with the 49ers. He figures to supply depth along the line and could work into the rotation on the defensive line by the end of the season.

Loss (Oct. 30): The 49ers waive Marlon Moore, who began the season as the No. 3 wide receiver. He caught only one pass for 6 yards. He was a healthy scratch twice. He went unclaimed, but Moore signed on Monday with the Miami Dolphins.

Gain (Oct. 31): Outside linebacker Aldon Smith was activate from the non-football illness list. However, he does not occupy a roster spot, as the NFL granted the 49ers a one-week roster exemption. The exemption expires on Wednesday, at which point the 49ers must have a roster opening.

Loss (Nov. 2): Inside linebacker/special-teams player Nate Stupar was waived. Stupar, likely, would’ve been ticketed back to the 49ers’ practice squad, but the Jacksonville Jaguars claimed him off waivers on Monday.

Loss (Nov. 4): The 49ers waived Nnamdi Asomugha, who played well in three games as the third cornerback but was unseated by the strong play of Tramaine Brock, who stepped in when Asomugha missed one game with a knee injury. Because he is a vested veteran, the 49ers will owe Asomugha the balance of his $1.35 million contract unless he is claimed off waivers. The deadline for a waiver claim on Asomugha is Tuesday, 1 p.m.

Gain (Nov. 4): Mario Manningham, the 49ers’ second-leading wide receiver a year ago, was activated after spending the first eight games on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list. Manningham returned to practice on Oct. 13 after sustaining two torn ligaments in his left knee on Dec. 23 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Gain (Nov. 4): The 49ers activate veteran cornerback Eric Wright at the same time as they announce Asomugha’s release. Wright has started 81 games in six NFL seasons with Cleveland, Detroit and Tampa Bay. He signed a one-year contract with the 49ers in August, several weeks after the 49ers voided a trade with the Buccaneers because he did not pass their physical. Wright reported to the 49ers three weeks after his signing to deal with a personal matter. He has been on the 49ers’ reserve/non-football illness list. He figures to have a chance to work his way into a role before too long.

Currently, the 49ers have one roster spot available. Aldon Smith is expected to account for a spot on the 53-man roster later this week.

Also, rookie inside linebacker Nick Moody, who’s been on injured reserve with a designation to return with a broken right hand, is soon expected to be activated.

Within the next few weeks, the 49ers are also expected to activate wide receiver Michael Crabtree (Achilles) from the reserve/PUP list.
