Anquan Boldin's contract with the 49ers expired at the beginning of this league year, and the veteran receiver remains a free agent.

With the curiosity around Boldin's status, one NFL Scouting Director weighed in, saying, "He's old and can't run," according to NFL Network's Albert Breer.

The scouting director also told Breer teams want to get younger players reps this time of year.

Boldin, 35, had 1,000-yard campaigns in two of his last three seasons in San Francisco.

The three-time Pro Bowler was never known for his speed, having run a 4.71 40-yard dash as a 23-year-old at the NFL combine, but he went on to have an illustrious career.

Boldin is 17th all-time in NFL history in receiving yards with 13,195. The only active players he trails are Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Smith and Andre Johnson.

He's played in two Super Bowls, winning one with the Baltimore Ravens in 2012.
