Head coach Jim Harbaugh probably won't like it, but 49ers fans might think otherwise.
Pro Football Talk came to the end of its preseason NFL power rankings and placed the San Francisco 49ers on top. Numero uno.
Harbaugh is always looking to give his team a competitive edge, and preseason compliments, from media outlets or otherwise, aren't likely to be showcased in Santa Clara.
That said, PFT cites the 49ers offensive line and linebackers as team strengths. PFT's weaknesses include the injury-depleted wide receiving corps with Michael Crabtree out for the forseeable future and Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams working their way back from serious knee injuries.
The loss of Delanie Walker, who signed a large free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans, led PFT to add tight ends as a 49ers weakness, even with Vernon Davis being one of the top players in football.
High hopes remain for second-round draft pick Vance McDonald, who 49ers Insider Matt Maiocco says "it would be a surprise, based on his performance in the offseason, if McDonald does not immediately become the No. 2 tight end and see a lot of playing time."
