The Jets appear determined to trade lauded cornerback Darrelle Revis. After being burned in the 2012 playoffs to the tune of 313.3 passing yards per game, the 49ers are in the market for a lock-down corner.

Those circumstances alone have led to widespread speculation, and they were fueled when Revis himself said a trade to San Francisco would be "awesome."

Senior Insider Ray Ratto wrote Tuesday that Revis is fool's gold for 49ers fans:

"Football fan in March lives in delusion. Darrelle Revis a 49er? Sure, why not? All things are possible when you’re just pulling stuff out of the air. Just don’t feign surprise when it comes to nothing. Something that makes sense to you doesn’t necessarily make sense to the people who actually are paid to know things."

Just one day later, those people paid to know things went public with conflicting reports.

One report, citing "a team source," said the 49ers' interest in Revis is ".001 on a scale of 1-10."

Another report, coming from New York and citing "sources," indicates the 49ers are "interested in trading for Revis sooner rather than later."

The two reports were published within 12 hours of each other.

Revis, 27, is coming off an injury-riddled season in which a concussion and a torn ACL limited him to just two games, but the six-year veteran is still widely regarded as the top cover corner in the NFL.
