SAN FRANCISCO -- Aldon Smith's sack of Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger late in the fourth quarter Monday night gave him 13 sacks for the year, eclipsing Charles Haley's single-season rookie record in San Francisco.

Smith had 2.5 sacks in the 20-3 win over Pittsburgh. His first sack of the night was negated by a penalty.

"I'm happy about it," Smith said. "I take a tremendous amount of pride ... it's something I'll never forget."

Haley set the 49ers' rookie mark of 12 in 1986. Fred Dean holds the team's single-season mark of 17.5, set in 1983.

Bryant Young's 89.5 sacks is the all-time franchise mark. Young starred for San Francisco from 1994-2007. Haley is second on the team list with 66.5 in two stints (1986-91, 1998-99) with the 49ers. In his 12 NFL seasons, Haley recorded 100.5 sacks.

Cedric Hardman is credited with 112 sacks as a member of San Francisco's famed "Gold Rush" line in the 1970s, but sacks didn't become an official NFL statistic until 1982.
