SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers on Thursday waived running back Mike Davis, a fourth-round draft pick in 2015, who ended last season at the bottom of the team’s depth chart, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area.

Davis no longer has a place on the 49ers after the club in the past week acquired veteran running back Kapri Bibbs in a trade with the Denver Broncos, selected Utah’s Joe Williams in the fourth round of the draft, and signed undrafted rookie Matt Breida of Georgia Southern.

In two seasons with the 49ers, Davis appeared in 14 games and rushed for 108 yards and one touchdown on 54 attempts for a rushing average of 2.0 yards. He caught 10 passes for 63 yards. In his final two college seasons at South Carolina, Davis rushed for 2,165 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Davis was inactive for the final eight games of the season after struggling in the first half of the season.

In Week 17, when Carlos Hyde was out with a knee injury, the 49ers activated running back Raheem Mostert from the practice squad. Mostert suited up for the final game of the season.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the 49ers attempted to trade Davis during the draft before opting to release him.
