With the No. 15 pick in the second round (No. 47 overall), the Washington Redskins selected former Stanford Cardinal OLB Trent Murphy.
Murphy was the first Cardinal selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, and the first selection made by the Redskins in the draft.
At 6-foot-5, 250 pounds Murphy is expected to play outside linebacker in the Redskins' 3-4 defensive scheme.
As a senior in 2013, Murphy led all of Division I with 15 sacks and led the Pac-12 in tackles for loss (24). He left Stanford with 160 tackles, 32.5 sacks, 52.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles.
The Redskins currently have Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo at the outside linebacker position. Orakpo is in the last year of his contract after signing the one-year franchise tender.
