OAKLAND -- Coco Crisp is back.
Crisp is in the starting lineup for the first time since Sept. 18, the opener of the A's 10-game road trip. Without him, the A's managed a 4-5 record in hostile territory.
Sidelined by pink eye and a subsequent infection, Crisp pinch ran twice on the A's road trip, and swiped bags each time.
The A's delayed announcing their lineups until after batting practice to make sure he was ready. Crisp hit the ball sharply from both sides of the plate, and put one out onto the steps in left field from the right side.
Behind Crisp, Brandon Moss moves up to the cleanup spot after a home run Thursday extending his hitting streak to eight games. And Josh Reddick moves up to the five spot after snapping out of his 0-for-30 slump with four hits and two home runs in his last two games.
"That was difficult for him," Melvin said of Reddick's skid. "And we felt it too because he means so much to us. He seems to be back swinging the bat in the fashion that he did earlier."
It's a day off for Chris Carter, as Seth Smith assumes the designated hitting responsibilities. Smith is 1-for-his-last-16, all on the road. A return to the Coliseum could be just what he needs.
"Anytime you're at home and you have that (fan support) on your side, it's definitely an advantage," Smith said.
"It's always good to feel the fans supporting us."
