A's acquire Blanks from Padres, DFA Barton

The Oakland A’s have acquired outfielder/first baseman Klye Blanks from the San Diego Padres for minor league outfielder Jake Goebbert and a player to be named later.

Blanks, 27, who will join the A’s in Cleveland on Friday, was 2-for-10 with a run and three strikeouts in five games before he was optioned to Triple-A by the Padres on Tuesday.

To clear a spot on the roster, the A’s have designated first baseman Daric Barton for assignment.

Barton, 28,  was 9-for-57 (.158) with 14 strikeouts over 30 games for the A's this year. He has spent parts of the last eight seasons with Oakland is a .247 career hitter in 551 games.

Goebbert was batting .257 with six home runs and 25 RBI in 31 games with Triple-A Sacramento. He was acquired by the A’s from Houston for Travis Blackley April 4, 2013 and is a .278 career hitter with 59 home runs and 343 RBI in 613 games in six seasons in the minors.
