The Oakland Athletics began cutting players from their spring camp Sunday, dwindling down the roster to its eventual 25-man number by opening day.
The list of reassigned names includes 19-year-old prospect Addison Russell, who was selected with the 11th overall pick in last June's MLB Amateur Draft.
The remaining cuts are as follows, as announced by the team Sunday: Left-handed pitcher Andrew Werner and right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez optioned to Triple-A Sacramento and right-handed pitcher Michael Ynoa to Single-A Beloit. The team also reassigned six non-roster invitees to their minor league camp, including right-handed pitcher Kyler Newby, catchers Ryan Ortiz and Beau Taylor, and infielders Miles Head and Jefry Marte.
The A's now have 47 players in camp, 38 of which are currently on the 40-man roster. The breakdown includes 22 pitchers, four catchers, 13 infielders and eight outfielders.
