SAN FRANCISCO Matt Cain threw a perfect game, he started for theNL All-Star team, he won two winner-take-all postseason series games and hegave the Giants seven innings in the World Series clincher.
That is a good season. But heres something else that meansa lot to Cain: He threw a career-high 249 13 innings, counting the 30 hetossed in the playoffs.
Its the most innings, all told, that a Giant had thrown ina season since 1978, when Bob Knepper logged 260 and Vida Blue threw 258.(Although Tim Lincecum came as close as possible in 2010, when he threw 249innings.)
I asked Cain what he thought about all his accomplishmentsthis season.
I think Im definitely going to find ways to improve, hesaid. Ill go back to work once this season is over.
