SAN FRANCISCO -- Running back Frank Gore etched his name into the 49ers' record book Sunday as the franchise's all-time NFL rushing leader early in the second quarter Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.
Gore took over the 49ers' franchise record in rushing yards in NFL games on his seventh carry against the St. Louis Rams, pushing him over Joe "The Jet" Perry's mark of 7,344 yards. Gore entered the game in need of 22 yards to surpass Perry.

Perry, elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1969, died April 25 at age 84.
