SANTA CLARA -- Coach Jim Harbaugh said he felt relief when he checked on Patrick Willis on on the field Sunday and discovered the 49ers' All-Pro linebacker had sustained a hamstring injury."I guess I was more relieved it wasn't a knee -- that area they were working on," Harbaugh said on Monday during his weekly press conference. "I was concerned about that for Patrick and for our team."Willis was scheduled to undergo an MRI examination, but Harbaugh said he had no results nor had he spoken with Willis as of late Monday afternoon.
Several of Willis' teammates said they believed the injury Willis sustained Sunday against the St. Louis Rams was not serious. He left the game with a strain to his lower right hamstring. He was seen after the game walking without any difficulty.
Harbaugh declined to put any kind of timetable on Willis' availability. The 49ers will have a better idea of Willis' condition on Wednesday when they are scheduled for their first practice of the week."It's hard to say with any injury, including a hamstring," Harbaugh said.Willis is the fourth 49ers player to be removed from a game this season due to a hamstring injury.--Outside linebacker Parys Haralson left the Oct. 16 game against the Detroit Lions. He did not miss any games, as he was back in the starting lineup when the 49ers returned to action after the bye.--Defensive end Ray McDonald missed one game with a hamstring strain he sustained Oct. 30 against Cleveland.--Right guard Adam Snyder, who was originally expected to miss a game or two, had a quicker-than-anticipated recovery after his Thanksgiving injury and was back in the lineup on Sunday against the Rams.
