Warriors roster — where it stands

The Warriors play their secondand lastexhibition gameon Tuesday against Sacramento and the regular-season opener is Sunday, Dec. 25,against the L.A. Clippers at Oracle. In other words, were getting close to the point wheredecisions have to be made about the roster. At present, there are 16 playersremaining at Warriors camp. NBA teams may have as many as 15 players on theirroster, so theyll have to cut down by one.The player most likely to be waived is point guard TommieMitchell. If that happens, theoretically the Warriors could keep their rosterat 15 and thats the one they give the league on Dec. 24, the day rosters mustbe set.The Warriors have 11 guaranteed contracts, and twonon-guaranteed players who figure to hang around: Ish Smith and DominicMcGuire. Reality is the Warriors are determining whether to keep both EdwinUbiles and Chris Wright, keep just one of them, or keep none of them.
There seems to be a chance both could stick, and they couldspend plenty of time playing for the Dakota Wizards, the Warriors D-Leagueaffiliate. That would be a sign the Warriors like them enough to want to keepany other teams _ at least for now _ from acquiring them.At the same time, the Warriors could waive them at any time or Smith or McGuire, for that matterin order to give them flexibility in afuture transaction.Ubiles, 6-foot-6, 204 pounds, played at Siena and is ashooting guardsmall forward. Wright, 6-foot-8, 226 pounds, played at Daytonand is trying to become more of a small forward than the power forward he wasin college.Heres how the Warriors roster looks right now:POINT GUARDS: Stephen Curry, Ish Smith,Charles Jenkins, Tommie Mitchell.SHOOTING GUARDS: Monta Ellis, KlayThompson.SMALL FORWARD: Dorell Wright, BrandonRush, Dominic McGuire, Edwin Ubiles.POWER FORWARDS: David Lee, Ekpe Udoh,Chris Wright.CENTERS: Andris Biedrins, Kwame Brown,Jeremy Tyler.
