While the Raiders were signing a free agent Friday in linebacker Nick Roach they also lost one of their own in defensive end Matt Shaughnessy, who went to Arizona.
Almost lost in the shuffle was running back Mike Goodson also leaving Oakland. He signed a reported three-year, $6.9-million contract with the New York Jets after one season with the Raiders.
Goodson signed with Oakland as a free agent last year to be Darren McFadden's backup after spending his first three seasons in Carolina. And while he did average a career-high 6.3 yards per carry (221 yards on 35 carries) while catching 16 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, Goodson suffered an ankle sprain that kept him out of four games. The same four games McFadden missed, so he was unable to truly establish himself.
With the Jets, Goodson is expected to compete with Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight for the starting job.
