ALAMEDA -- The Raiders chose David Bass with the No. 233 overall pick in the seventh round of the NFL draft on Saturday.
Here's a closer look at the selection:
Position: Defensive end
School: Missouri Western
Height/weight: 6 foot 4, 262 pounds
College career: Second-team A.P. Little American All-American after finishing with a career school-record 40 1/2 sacks and also had 56 tackles for a loss. Dominated the D-II ranks in 50 games.
Scouting report: Said to have quick first step and strong burst off the snap. But playing against inferior competition is sure to be a concern, as is the question -- is he a defensive end or a pass-rushing outside linebacker.
How he fits: Raiders only had 25 sacks a year ago, and only eight of the sacks return in Lamar Houston (4), Andre Carter (2 1/2) and Miles Burris (1 1/2) and they address pass-rushing needs with the selection of Bass.
In his words: "Beast."
