Are we about to witness the true dawn of the Marquette King Era in Oakland?
Seven-time Pro Bowl punter Shane Lechler, an unrestricted free agent who earned $4 million a year for the past four years, is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans on Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle.
It makes sense, in that Lechler is from nearby Sealy, Texas and played his college ball at Texas A&M. Also, the Texans punter, Donnie Jones, is a free agent.
Jones averaged 47.2 yards on 88 punts last season while Lechler also averaged 47.2 yards, on 81 punts. Lechler though, holds the career punting average record of 47.5 yards, on 1,014 punts.
Lechler is also a six-time All-Pro selection.
King, who has a powerful if inconsistent leg, was an undrafted rookie the Raiders held onto last season via Injured Reserve, after a preseason injury to his foot.
