ANAHEIM -- Yoenis Cespedes was scratched just before first pitch of the A's game at the Los Angeles Angels Friday night with left wrist soreness.
Cespedes, the Home Run Derby champion on Monday night, took batting practice and A's manager Bob Melvin said in his pregame scrum Friday that his left fielder emerged from the competition healthy, though Melvin's meeting with reporters was before Cespedes' B.P. session.
Originally in the lineup in left and batting fifth, Cespedes was replaced in the field by Chris Young, who made an acrobatic shoestring catch in the first inning. Josh Reddick was moved to fifth in the batting order and Young was moved to seventh.
The A's are 49-29 thus far this season with Cespedes in the starting lineup, but just 7-10 when he does not start the game.
