The NBA announced Friday that player training camps for the 2011-12 season have been postponed indefinitely because a new collective bargaining agreement has not been reached with the National Basketball Players Association. Training camps were scheduled to open on October 3.
In addition, the league canceled all preseason games scheduled from Oct. 9 -15.
We have regretfully reached the point on the calendar where we are not able to open training camps on time and need to cancel the first week of preseason games, said NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver. We will make further decisions as warranted.
And file a copy under, Youre not going to announce the cancellation of the season week-by-week too, are you?
The NBA season is about a goner anyway. At this point, even if the players agreed to everything the owners wanted, we suspect some of the owners would want the season canceled anyway, just to teach the little weasels a lesson about who runs what.
I mean, theyve all budgeted to have the winter off, owners and players alike, so why would anyone in their right mind get their hopes up?
On the other hand, why would anyone want to be reminded every single week that the NBA is taking the year? Wed rather this be done with one clean shot, rather than one extremity at a time. Were sure the league doesnt see it this way, because even bad news delivered stupidly is still news, and the NBA is a hell of a lot closer to out-of-sight-out-of-mind than the NFL was.
But you wouldnt know that to see them operate.
