The Giants put Brandon Belt on the seven-day disabled list, the team announced Monday morning.

The move is retroactive to July 20.

Belt sustained a concussion when hit in the face by a thrown ball during batting practice on Saturday. He was looking at shortstop to receive one throw when another came from either Marco Scutaro or Joe Panik at second base.

Belt started Saturday's game, hit a double in the second inning and scored on a passed ball followed by an errant throw to third base.

He was nauseous in the third inning, came out of the game and was only marginally better Sunday morning.

Belt was not in the lineup on Sunday and following the Giants' 3-2 loss in Miami, Bruce Bochy wasn't sure whether Belt would go on the 7-day DL for players with concussion symptoms, which requires additional paperwork, or the standard 15-day DL.

The Giants recalled infielder Adam Duvall to fill the roster spot.

The team also placed Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list and recalled right-handed reliever George Kontos.
