Boston released Sandoval on Wednesday afternoon, officially bringing his tenure with the Red Sox to an end.

Sandoval was in the middle of the third year of a five-year, $95 million contract with Boston. In two and a half seasons with Red Sox, Sandoval played in 161 games. He hit .237/.286/.360 with 27 doubles, 14 home runs and 59 RBI.
