Report: Giants give C Kottaras minor league deal, spring training invite

With pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training next month, the Giants made a move on Thursday to increase their depth.

San Francisco signed veteran catcher George Kottaras to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Kottaras, 32, is a career .215/.326/.411 hitter with 32 home runs over seven MLB seasons split between seven different teams.

He played 27 games for the Oakland A's in 2012, hitting .212 with six home runs.

The Giants currently have three catchers on their 40-man roster in Buster Posey, Andrew Susac and Trevor Brown.
