SAN FRANCISCO – Pablo Sandoval is in the Giants lineup as designated hitter for Friday night’s game against the A’s.

Sandoval has been sidelined since March 17 with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow, but he threw from 100 feet before Friday’s game and reported no discomfort.

“I’m excited to be back,” Sandoval said.

Does his inclusion in Friday’s lineup mean he’ll be playing in Monday’s season opener at Dodger Stadium?

“Yeah, it’s possible,” he said.

The Giants opted for him to serve as DH in the second game of the Bay Bridge Series against Oakland rather than have him play his customary third base. National League teams can opt to use a DH in exhibitions played in their home ballpark.

“If he feels anything, we’ll scratch him, but right now he’s a go,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “He wants to go, he’s throwing and swinging the bat. He’s fine.”

But Bochy acknowledged that Sandoval could come off the bench and serve as a pinch hitter in the Dodgers series if his elbow acts up at all.
